Exhibition in Pembroke JCR Art Gallery sheds light on the darkness of disappearance

An important exhibition has just opened in the JCR Art Gallery. Showcasing works by Mexican artist Chantal Meza, the exhibition forces us to confront what for many of us is unimaginable: disappearing without a trace. A series of public talks attached to the exhibition reveals that for some families, the disappearance of loved ones is far from unimaginable, it is their reality.

What’s better than one Headship? Two! PCBC’s 2025 Summer VIIIs campaign

They’ve done it again! Our incredible W1 have gone and won their second Headship this year at Summer VIIIs, marking a very successful year for PCBC. Great performances from all crews, including M3 winning blades, have ended a week of rowing on a high.

‘An utterly invaluable experience’: OxNet Pupils Attend Seminars with World-Leading Academics

Year 12 OxNet pupils took part in a programme of subject-specific seminars, delivered by leading academics from Pembroke and beyond. Our Access and Outreach team offer us an insight into the academic content and aims of the seminars, presented alongside testimonials from the pupils themselves.

Pembroke JCR Art Fund Hosts 'A WORLD AWAY' Exhibition

From 4th to 19th November, the Pembroke JCR Art Fund Gallery hosted an exhibition of artwork titled ‘A WORLD AWAY’. Inviting you to “experience worlds real and imagined”, A WORLD AWAY featured pieces from a father and daughter, Gabriella and Julian Bailey, with links to Dorset and Oxford – places which have shaped the literary universe of many writers and artists including Thomas Hardy. On 11th November, we visited the gallery to speak with Gabriella and curator Myroslava Hartmond about the exhibition.

Long Service Awards 2023: 325 Years of Staff Service Celebrated

Last month staff from across College gathered for our annual Long Service Awards, an opportunity to recognise the dedicated service of those that have been with us for over 10 years. Fifteen staff members received awards, recognising a total of 325 years of service between them, with the longest serving member having worked at Pembroke for an incredible forty-one years.

The Text Behind the Text: Pembroke Fellow to Speak at Event on "Forgotten Editor" of the Oxford English Dictionary

How do you make a dictionary? Following the recent discovery of editors' proofs (showing handwritten edits) from the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, an event on 17th November will feature talks from a variety of academics, including Pembroke's Professor Lynda Mugglestone, on the life and work of second OED editor Henry Bradley and his contribution to the dictionary which remains at the forefront of lexicography today.
