Alumni Interviews: Simone Desmarchelier

Simone Desmarchelier graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) from Pembroke in 1996. She recently made a trip to Europe from Australia which included visiting Pembroke to donate one of her artworks to the SCR. An Oxford love story: From a College disco to a 50th wedding anniversary

Having met at a disco in Brasenose Cellars in 1971, Paul and Phyl Carvosso were married in Pembroke Chapel on a snowy April day in 1975. We were delighted to have them back exactly 50 years later this April to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary!

Exhibition in Pembroke JCR Art Gallery sheds light on the darkness of disappearance

An important exhibition has just opened in the JCR Art Gallery. Showcasing works by Mexican artist Chantal Meza, the exhibition forces us to confront what for many of us is unimaginable: disappearing without a trace. A series of public talks attached to the exhibition reveals that for some families, the disappearance of loved ones is far from unimaginable, it is their reality.

Crossings in the Real: Ethnographic and Documentary Voices in Sinophone Cinema

By highlighting Italy in this bellwether role, the conference seeks to carry Patrick McCarthy’s insights into the present, asking what Italy’s trajectory reveals about the future of European democracy and its place in the Atlantic order.
