Exhibition in Pembroke JCR Art Gallery sheds light on the darkness of disappearance

An important exhibition has just opened in the JCR Art Gallery. Showcasing works by Mexican artist Chantal Meza, the exhibition forces us to confront what for many of us is unimaginable: disappearing without a trace. A series of public talks attached to the exhibition reveals that for some families, the disappearance of loved ones is far from unimaginable, it is their reality.

What’s better than one Headship? Two! PCBC’s 2025 Summer VIIIs campaign

They’ve done it again! Our incredible W1 have gone and won their second Headship this year at Summer VIIIs, marking a very successful year for PCBC. Great performances from all crews, including M3 winning blades, have ended a week of rowing on a high.

‘An utterly invaluable experience’: OxNet Pupils Attend Seminars with World-Leading Academics

Year 12 OxNet pupils took part in a programme of subject-specific seminars, delivered by leading academics from Pembroke and beyond. Our Access and Outreach team offer us an insight into the academic content and aims of the seminars, presented alongside testimonials from the pupils themselves.

Pembroke Welcomes Rochdale and Bury Students for Month-Long Summer School

08 September 2023

Over the month of July, 260 secondary school students from around the world experienced undergraduate life at Pembroke. This year, following a partnership formed with Rochdale Development Agency, a number of pupils from across Rochdale and Bury were invited to attend the summer school - an opportunity to engage with new academic ideas, to be challenged in their subjects, and to immerse themselves in the Oxbridge experience.

Pembroke Chinese Fellow’s Book Shortlisted for Wolfson History Prize 2023

Congratulations to Pembroke’s Stanley Ho Fellow and Tutor in Chinese, Professor Henrietta Harrison, whose book ‘The Perils of Interpreting: The Extraordinary Lives of Two Translators between Qing China and the British Empire’ has been shortlisted for the Wolfson History Prize 2023.

Dr Peter Claus Publishes Third Edition of ‘History: An Introduction to Theory and Method’

Dr Peter Claus, Pembroke Access Fellow and Director of OxNet and CredOx, has recently published the third edition of his book titled ‘History: An Introduction to Theory and Method’. Co-authored with Professor John Marriott, this book is an essential resource for students of historical theory and method, and can be used at both introductory and advanced levels.

Pembroke Travels: Cassie Lloyd-Watson and Olivia Walsh

Pembroke undergraduate linguists Cassie Lloyd-Watson (2021, Spanish and Portuguese) and Olivia Walsh (2021, Spanish and Portuguese) were eager to spend their first Oxford vacation bringing their studies to life in a ‘real world’ context. In September 2022, with financial support from Pembroke, Cassie and Olivia took a trip to Lisbon to improve their language skills and experience Portuguese culture first-hand.

Year 12 Pupils Experience 'Week in the Life of an Oxford Undergraduate' During OxNet Access Week

Dr Nicole Miranda Publishes Research on the Dangers of Missing the 1.5°C Climate Target

Pembroke College Lecturer in Engineering, Dr Nicole Miranda, is the first author and co-lead of an important research paper with fellow Oxford academics titled ‘Change in cooling degree days with global mean temperature increasing from 1.5 °C to 2.0 °C’.

Crafting Excellence: Pembroke Alumnus Receives Top Watchmaking Award

Though watches are worn by millions worldwide, few will truly understand the art and intricacies of the industry. For one Pembroke alumnus, Stephen McDonnell (1993, Theology), mechanical watches have been a lifelong fascination that have led him on an extraordinary journey of innovation. Stephen's recent new watch design saw him win the top accolade in the field of Watchmaking last November at the GPHG.
