On Saturday 20th May, we were pleased to welcome the winners of the Pembroke Inspirational Teachers Award to college for the JCR Guest Dinner!

Congratulations to Pembroke student Benoit Mes (2021, History) who has been awarded a prestigious research fellowship by the Gilder Lehrman Institute! We asked Benoit to tell us more about this fellowship and his undergraduate thesis research topic.

Research that Pembroke student Alex Welch undertook during his undergraduate studies has been published in Nature Methods. Alex studied Biochemistry at Pembroke from 2018, graduating with First Class Honours in 2022. 

On 11th May 2023, Pembroke College welcomed 50 Year 10 & 12 students and teachers from Dartford Grammar School (DGS) for a Japanese Studies taster day.

We are delighted to learn that Senior Research Fellow Professor Scott Waddell, Honorary Fellow Professor Irene Tracey, and Honorary Fellow and alumnus Professor Sir Chris Whitty have been elected to The Royal Society.

It is with great sadness that the College has learned of the death of The Rt Hon The Lord Carswell, alumnus and Honorary Fellow of Pembroke. Lord Carswell’s distinguished legal career culminated in him serving as the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland and then a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary.

Congratulations to current Pembroke MCR member Sebastian Răduleţu (DPhil Law) on his election by the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) as Romanian judge to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

We’re delighted to share that Pembroke Chaplain, the Revd Dr Andrew Teal, was last week awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Brigham Young University, Utah. The award is the highest honour that BYU confers on individuals, given in recognition of an outstanding life and contributions to the world.

We were deeply saddened to learn in February of the death of Professor Tom McLeish, Senior Associate at Pembroke. A service of thanksgiving was held in York Minster on 27th April 2023, with a recording available on YouTube.
