Supporting Local Farms: Pembroke Kitchens Partner with OxFarmToFork

Every Tuesday and Friday morning, a delivery of freshly harvested vegetables and other produce arrives at Pembroke’s kitchens. Within hours of its arrival by cargo bike, seasonal produce is on the menu and served to students and staff in Hall.

Japanese Studies Access and Outreach Event

On 14th May 2024, Pembroke College welcomed 26 Year 10 and 12 students and their teachers from Dartford Grammar School (DGS) for a Japanese Studies taster day. DGS is renowned for producing one of the highest numbers of Japanese language learners in Britain, thanks to its unique curriculum where all students study either Japanese or Mandarin from Year 7.

Climb Every Mountain: Two Pembroke Students Complete the Three Peaks Challenge in Aid of Local Charities

Oxford life isn’t just about the libraries – our students do all sorts of interesting things in between lectures and tutorials, including climbing three mountains in one go! Last month, two medical students took on the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the three tallest peaks in the UK within 24 hours in order to raise money for two local charities.

Believe in Him Installation Visits Pembroke

11 April 2024

Believe in Him, created by Utah artist Tom Holdman in collaboration with the Roots of Humanity Foundation, is a 32-foot long stained glass exhibit which has travelled between Rome, Paris and London. During the recent vacation, the travelling exhibition spent a week in Pembroke's Hall and Chapel, where it was enjoyed by students, staff and visitors.

Pembroke Awarded £700k Grant for Decarbonisation Project

05 April 2024

We are delighted to share that Pembroke has been awarded a grant of £726,710 from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, marking a second major milestone in our journey to Net Zero. The grant will fund a project to decarbonise heating in the Rokos Quad, following similar works successfully carried out in the Hall and GAB in summer 2023. Once complete, a total of 45% of the College estate will have decarbonised heating.

Since graduating from Pembroke in 2006, Verity Harding’s career has been nothing short of impressive – from working as a special adviser to Nick Clegg, to being named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in AI in September last year. Now, she has shared her knowledge in her recently published book AI Needs You: How We Can Change AI’s Future and Save Our Own, designed to explain why you should get involved in one of the most rapidly changing industries in the world.

Crossings in the Real: Ethnographic and Documentary Voices in Sinophone Cinema

This screening programme explores a collection of Sinophone films whose genres sit in between an ethnographic film, documentary, essay film, and fiction. The series will cover four themes, including COVID-19, Gender, Art and Society, and Rural-Urban, and will run from Feb to May 2026. The screenings will be held in the Pichette Auditorium and the China Centre, University of Oxford.
