Two Pembroke alumni awarded OBEs in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025

Congratulations are in order for Pembroke alumni John Clarfelt (1971, Jurisprudence) and Joshua Macabuag (2003, Engineering Science) who were both awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025.

John Clarfelt, Founder of bus ticketing systems provider Ticketer, was recognised for his services to the bus sector and his contributions to making transport more accessible for both operators and passengers. John’s passion for innovation has contributed to the development of new technology by Ticketer which has changed ticketing and bus operations for the better.

Dr Joshua Macabuag, who has coined the term “Disaster Risk Engineering” to describe his work, received an honour for his services to Disaster Search and Rescue Engineering and his work on urban search and rescue and catastrophe modelling. He is the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Renew Risk, a company geared towards revolutionizing risk management in Renewable Energy. He also serves as Engineering Manager of Search and Rescue Assistance in Disasters (SARAID), a volunteer-led charity specialising in earthquake and building collapse rescue.
