Pembroke Celebrates 40 Years of Women with Special Event and Lecture

NEWS |

A great mixture of alumnae and current students attended the celebratory event for the 40th anniversary of Women at Pembroke on Friday, the 29th of November.

The event started with an exclusive viewing of ‘The Women Who Made The Collection’ in the JCR Art Gallery, an exhibition designed to recognise and highlight the women who have championed the art collection over the course of its long existence. This was then followed by a fascinating lecture by Anna Murphy (1990, English & Modern Languages) on ‘The Clothes We Stand Up In: What Fashion Says About Women Today’.

After Anna’s presentation, there was the opportunity for alumnae and students to chat over drinks, which proved to be an enthusiastic and engaging chance for Women of Pembroke to come together and share their experiences. A commemorative dinner was then held in Hall to celebrate the anniversary and showcase the rich variety of talent amongst Pembrokian women. A speech was made by the Master of the College, Dame Lynne Brindley, to mark the significance of the anniversary in Pembroke’s history.

The Master ended her speech by saying: “The College’s core values today are to be academically ambitious, collaborative, balanced, adaptable and inclusive. It is my hope that this very special community of Pembroke will welcome and support diversity in all its forms for centuries to come.”
