Pembroke College

As part of Pembroke’s 400th Anniversary celebrations, we are holding a bike ride from College to Greyfriars Vineyard, The Hogs Back, Puttenham, Surrey, GU3 1AG on Saturday, 27th July. The ride is open to all alumni, current College members and their partners.

group cycling

The ride is very much intended to be an event rather than a race and as such we welcome riders of all abilities. The route will not be overly hilly but it is still a reasonable distance so some experience of having had a full day in the saddle will likely make for a better day. The ride will be fully supported with vehicles carrying spares, pumps, drinks and refreshments.

The plan is to meet up at Pembroke by 9am for a breakfast roll and cup of tea and coffee. We will then set off for a 100km ride along the byways of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Surrey. The route has been selected to ensure we will be staying off main roads and get to see some picturesque countryside.

We will stop for coffee after approximately an hour and a half. At 1pm we will pull into a pub for lunch. The aim is to arrive at Greyfriars near Guildford during the middle of the afternoon.

Greyfriars vineyard

Greyfriars is an award winning producer of English sparkling wines and has specially commissioned Pembroke Pink and the Pembroke 400th Anniversary sparkling. Greyfriars has been created and built up by Mike and Hilary Wagstaff over the last 13 years. Mike (1980) and Hilary (1981) will be joining us on the ride and are kindly hosting us for a tasting on arrival.

At the end of the day we will range for bikes and riders to be transferred to Guildford Station for return trips to either Oxford or London.

The cost to alumni is £35 including breakfast, wine tasting and support (excluding lunch) and £25 for students. The ride will be limited to 50 people.
