Poetry at Pembroke: Tom Pickard

Tom Pickard was born in 1946, growing up in the working-class suburbs of Cowgate, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Blakelaw, and has published fourteen books of poetry, the first being High on the Walls (Fulcrum Press London; 1967) and the latest being Fiends Fell (Flood Editions, Chicago; 2017).  Jeremy Noel-Tod has described him as ‘one of our finest lyric poets’.  His Ballad of Jamie Allen was a finalist in the National Book Critics Circle awards.  Pickard has worked extensively with musicians, including John Harle and Paul McCartney.  He has also made documentary films for British television.  He is currently working on volume two of Fiends Fell.
