Pembroke Graduate Students Discuss 'The Life of Oscar Wilde' in University of Oxford Podcast

Pembroke students Davis Rivera (M.St Film Aesthetics), Conor Molloy (M.St Modern Languages) and Yannick Lambert (M.Phil Classical Indian Religion) have taken part in an episode of ‘In Our Spare Time’, a weekly 45-minute podcast in which a panel of Oxford students and young researchers join host Aled Walker, himself a second year PhD student, to discuss their academic and intellectual passions.

Davis, Conor and Yannick were on the show to discuss ‘The Life of Oscar Wilde’. The podcast is available on the Oxford University Podcasts website and on iTunes.

Reflecting on his time on the show, Davis commented: ‘As an admirer of Melvyn Bragg's podcast In Our Time, I was pleased to discover a student had taken it upon themselves to launch a university edition and was open to suggestions.  Prior to recording I received an advance copy of the "Cicero" episode and it was immediately apparent that host Aled Walker intended to match, if not surpass, the quality attained by Bragg's programme.’

He also commented on the group’s choice of topic: ‘Oscar Wilde, who claimed hearing himself talk was one of his greatest pleasures, is an immensely interesting individual whose joie de vivre and masterful works as a playwright, literary critic, poet, and novelist make discussing his life and influence an even greater pleasure.  Additionally, in my opinion, discussing Wilde's time at Oxford allowed the four of us to reflect on our experiences whilst students and appreciate this remarkable opportunity.’
