Pembroke Alumna Launches First UK App for Teen Health and Wellbeing

NEWS |

We are excited to share that Pembroke alumna, Jasmine Schembri (2020, MBA), is launching her new teen health app ‘luna’.

‘luna’ will be the first health and wellbeing app in the UK dedicated to teens aged 11-17. Its design will encourage young people to enquire about a variety of health topics, such as periods and hormonal acne. Together with luna’s co-founder and fellow MBA, Jo Goodall, Jas Schembri is determined to tackle the taboo associated with adolescent health, empowering teens to seek answers to their questions and understand their bodies better. Their work aims to bridge the historic gulf between the medical community and teen community. The app will feature medical professionals who will be available to answer questions from the app’s users, as well as expert curated advice covering topics from skincare to body image. Ultimately, Schembri and Goodall seek to connect a generation of social media with an updated form of health, sex and well-being education.

Recalling her time at College, Jasmine remembers her Armenian background first drew her to Pembroke due to its status as one of the few Oxford colleges offering a Masters in Classical Armenian Studies. She saw this as a mark of the College’s commitment to its wide-ranging and cross-disciplinary ethos.

We asked Jasmine for her advice to recent leavers:

‘Don’t underappreciate who is in your college and who you might share a table or a drink with. You are surrounded by incredible, smart people. Build a network with lots of different people, even if it means breaking out your comfort zone and sitting next to someone from a different subject – you never know who might be able to help you in ten years.’

‘luna’ will have its official launch November 15th. Check out more on www.weareluna.app, @wearelunaapp on socials or on the app stores 'Weareluna'.
