Part of the University of Oxford's 'Women of Achievement Lecture Series 2016-2017', former Pembroke student Katharine Viner (1989, English), spoke at Oxford on 4th May about 'Truth and Reality in a Hyper-Connected World'.

Now Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian, Viner delivered the lecture at the University of Oxford's Examination Schools. It is now available to watch on the University of Oxford's YouTube channel.

Reported in Oxford Today on 18th May, the talk covered the concept of truth in the modern digital age, as well as the relative ease of spreading false or misleading information online. Viner also suggested that, in future, users may prefer to use private online platforms - such as private messaging apps - to escape from the increasing culture of harassment on the public web.

The 'Women of Achievement Lecture Series' is funded by the Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity Fund and is hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Louise Richardson. Its aim is to increase the profile of high-achieving women, thereby highlighting role models accessible to women at Oxford.
