PCBC Unveils New Women’s Boat
NEWS |
Earlier this term, Pembroke College Boat Club (PCBC) christened their new Women’s Boat, naming it after Pembroke alumna and Paralympic gold medallist Erin Kennedy MBE (2011, History and English). Members of PCBC, new and old, joined at the Boat House as Erin unveiled the boat, before celebrating over Formal Dinner in Hall, blazers and all!
In a moving speech, Erin expressed her gratitude to PCBC for kick-starting her coxing career, as she poured champagne over the boat’s bow where her name is etched in Pembroke Pink. The Boat Club’s current Captain of Coxes Georgia Douglas then presented Erin with a PCBC blazer to honour her contributions to the club's history. Read more about Erin’s journey into rowing, her time at Pembroke and her preparation for the Paralympics in our recent interview here.
PCBC has historically had a very strong Women’s side, having held the Summer Eights Headship from 2000 to 2003 and again in 2018, and having reclaimed Torpids Headship in 2012. It goes without saying that the Women’s side were owed a sparkling new boat for their hard work and determination, and we look forward to the many more Summer VIIIs and Torpids successes that this new boat and the Pembroke women rowing in it will bring!
