Pembroke Alumna Erin Kennedy Wins Gold at 2024 Paralympic Games
NEWS |
Pembroke alumna Erin Kennedy (2011, History and English) has won a gold medal in the Paralympic Games as the cox for the Team GB PR3 Mixed Coxed Four boat.
Erin’s career started in the Pembroke boathouse, as part of a Freshers’ Week taster session for Pembroke College Boat Club. Since then, she’s become a three-time World Champion, three-time European Champion, and, after her win in Tokyo’s postponed 2020 Games, Paralympic Champion. She is the only cox ever to have held all three titles at once. In recognition of this incredible achievement, the 2022 New Years’ Honours List saw Erin awarded an MBE for Services to Rowing.
This year’s medal comes as part of Team GB’s most successful day in para-rowing in history, taking home three gold medals and one silver from Sunday’s races alone. It also marked a record-breaking day for Team GB across the board, totalling 12 gold medals in rowing, swimming, athletics and cycling.
As a nod to her PCBC roots, Erin's race-day nails featured Pembroke Pink varnish. Read more about Erin’s fascinating journey into rowing, her time at Pembroke and her preparation for the Paralympics in our recent interview here.
