Over-qualification and skills mismatch in the graduate labour market: new report by Pembroke Economists

NEWS |

Dr Craig Holmes (Lecturer in Economics) and Professor Ken Mayhew (Emeritus Fellow) are authors of the latest CIPD report on the expansion of take-up of UK higher education in recent decades, and the mismatch of high-skill jobs growth over the same period.

Their report concludes: “Policy-makers need to scrutinise the range of courses offered by the HE sector and seriously consider the social and private returns to them...Our findings suggest that the presence of a large HE sector will not necessarily lead to the attainment of the knowledge economy so beloved by successive UK governments.”

The report can be read in full online, on the CIPD website, and has received widespread publicity, including on BBC News, The Times Higher Education, and University World News.

The authors have since published further analysis of their findings in the online journal, The Conversation - click here to read in full.
