Medicine Alumna Harriet Loney Volunteers to Help COVID-19 Patients

Pembroke Alumna Harriet Loney (2014, Medicine – Preclinical) has recently started volunteering at the John Radcliffe Hospital’s A&E department to help the NHS in its bid to tackle the coronavirus crisis.

Harriet, who had just completed her medical finals at Green Templeton College on March 13th, decided to volunteer at the hospital almost immediately afterwards. She is currently working four to eight hour shifts at the John Radcliffe Hospital, alongside a growing team of healthcare assistants.

Harriet commented: “This month I was meant to be on placement in Sydney, Australia and be preparing to visit a hospital in Borneo for the rest of my medical elective. Instead I, along with 23 other recent graduates, have been working in the emergency department of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.”

“Becoming a doctor during a pandemic has been a steep learning curve but it's been rewarding to play my part by using the skills I've been trained in over the past six years.”
