Faaria Khan Awarded Prestigious Diamond Jubilee Scholarship

Congratulations to Faaria Khan (MEng Engineering Science, 2017) who has been awarded a Diamond Jubilee Scholarship which will enable her to enhance her academic study by undertaking trips, placements and projects throughout her degree. She received the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Great Exhibition Scholarship, which is supported by the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, and is awarded to only 10 students across the UK.

After completing an application for the scholarship, Faaria was called to an interview where she delivered a talk in response to the question ‘what does engineering mean to you?’ in front of a panel of distinguished engineers. She spoke about her passion for Formula 1, the collaboration involved in the subject and how her experiences have confirmed her desire to pursue a career in engineering.

Speaking about how this scholarship will benefit her studies, she commented: ‘I am very grateful to receive this scholarship as it will open many doors for me that would not have otherwise been available. It will help to fund any trips, work placements and projects that I may undertake over the course of my degree. It will also afford me opportunities to meet inspiring leaders of engineering, which I am really looking forward to. Additionally I can become an ambassador for the IET, participating in social events, presentations and doing outreach work to promote engineering as a career, especially to young girls.’
