Dr Victoria Van Hyning and Team Awarded MW2016 Platinum Prize for AnnoTate

A text-based crowdsourcing project co-founded by Dr Victoria Vvan Hyning, a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow based at Pembroke, has been awarded the Platinum prize in the 2016 Museums and the Web GLAMi Awards (MW2016).

Dr Vvan Hyning remains a lead researcher for AnnoTate, a project hosted on Zooniverse.org in collaboration with Tate museums and archives, which invites volunteers to transcribe artists’ notebooks, sketchbooks, letters and personal papers.

From 6th – 9th April 2016 in Los Angeles, USA, the 20th annual Museums and the Web conference brought together professionals working in diverse roles across museum, gallery, library and archive sectors. This year’s GLAMi Awards, previously known as the Best of the Web Awards, also celebrated websites featuring solar eclipse live broadcasts and public art collections.

The MW2016 judges explained their decision to give AnnoTate the Platinum prize: ‘We love the design – it maintains the look and feel of something tangible, which is not an easy feat… the interface is very thoughtfully designed and user friendly.’

Dr Vvan Hyning commented on the project’s success at MW2016: ‘It's one of the most important conferences for gallery, library, archive and museum specialists around the world, and this is the top prize this year. My team and I are quite chuffed!’
