Dr Nicole Miranda wins award for Sustainability Research

NEWS |

Many congratulations to College Lecturer in Engineering, Dr Nicole Miranda, who recently received an award for a new research paper at the 17th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems in Cyprus.

Dr Miranda’s paper, titled “Identifying the Foremost F-Gas Refrigerants for Vapor-Compression Technologies”, was named as one of the three best papers at the conference. It explores the atmospheric warming caused by HFC refrigerant emissions, highly potent greenhouse gases with very short life-times which some have suggested will represent up to 19% of total human emissions by 2050. Nicole’s research examines the importance of measuring and reporting the temperature responses of these gases, and ultimately of reducing emissions.

The conference paper can be found here.

Dr Nicole Miranda works with an interdisciplinary team at the Oxford Martin School’s Programme on The Future of Cooling, researching sustainable technologies. Her team are now preparing an additional piece to be published in the coming months which extends their research to other HFC refrigerants.
