Competition Law and Economic Inequality: Funding from the Leverhulme Trust

NEWS |

Congratulations to Pembroke Tutor in Law, Professor Ariel Ezrachi, who is heading a small research group that have just received funding from the Leverhulme Trust to support a project that will study the relationship between competition policy and wealth distribution.

The project, launched in February 2020, examines whether effective competition law enforcement can reduce economic inequality within developed countries. Specifically, it will examine whether limited or ineffective competition law enforcement has a negative effect on wealth distribution. The research will take place using both a cross-country analysis and a case study approach.

Ariel is working on this study as part of a four-person project team, comprised of law academics and economists from across the university. In addition to this, the study group is supported by a larger international steering committee to supplement their research.

It is hoped that the results of the study will be of interest to a global audience and have the potential to influence policy debate in years to come.
