Mr Daniel Spielhofer-Edan

College Lecturer in Pure Mathematics

I joined Pembroke in 2018, starting my undergraduate degree in Mathematics. My initial interests were more on the applied side, but I found myself increasingly drawn to pure mathematics. It brought rigour to material I had seen before, while building on it with new, imaginative techniques. In later years of the course, I found particular interest in Algebraic Geometry, as it combined the intuition I had developed on both the algebraic and geometric sides in beautiful ways. So I was very happy to be able to start my DPhil here at Pembroke in 2022 under the supervision of Professor Damian Rössler.

Towards the end of the first year of my DPhil, and upon seeing an opening at Pembroke for a Stipendiary Lecturer, I was very eager to have the opportunity to pay back for all the lessons I had learnt at Pembroke. And I now am greatly enjoying teaching the next generation of students in pure mathematics.
