As the oldest University in the English-speaking world, Oxford is a unique and historic institution. There is no clear date of foundation, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and Samina is its first British Pakistani Director for Admissions.
Prior to joining Oxford, Samina worked in the commercial, public and third sectors for a range of education related organisations. She has developed and implemented national policies on education and training for the Department for Education and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. In addition, Samina has worked for the regulators of national qualifications for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. She had also worked for Pearson initially to develop the STEM portfolio of national and international qualifications and then as the Education Policy Advisor.
Samina has represented the Examination Boards nationally as a Director for the Federation of Awarding Bodies and as a member of the Joint Council of Qualifications. She was a science teacher in London and Birmingham and is currently a trustee at Chalfont Community College, an academy in Buckinghamshire, and still enjoys supporting students struggling with GCSEs or A levels in the sciences.
During Samina’s leadership at Oxford the representation of state school students at Oxford has increased, and currently about seven out of every 10 offers have been made to state schools. She has pioneered targeted programmes to attract more students from under represented ethnic heritage and underprivileged backgrounds and from all parts of the globe. She works with national and international policy-makers and contributes regularly to the media and at conferences.
