Professor Lisa Webley, who is studying part-time at Pembroke for a Masters in Practical Ethics and is also a Professor at the University of Birmingham, has recently been appointed Law Commissioner for Property, Family and Trusts Law.

In her new role, Professor Webley, alongside three other commissioners, will lead on projects intended to initiate law reform where it is needed, playing an important part in the development and drafting of the law in England and Wales. Her appointment marks the first time in the Law Commission’s sixty-year history that all four Commissioners will be women.

Together, the Law Commissioners will agree on key policy issues in relation to law reform, managing teams of lawyers and research assistants working on different projects as well as consulting members of the public, senior officials, Government ministers and Parliamentary Counsel.

Professor Webley’s research focuses on the regulation, ethicality and professionalism of the legal profession, as well as increasing access to justice and rule of law concerns.

“I have been thoroughly enjoying my time at Pembroke, where everyone has been very welcoming and accepting of me as an older and part-time student. I have been privileged to have the opportunity to reflect more deeply and practically on the ethics of different approaches to rights and duties, studying alongside exceptional fellow students and being taught by world-leading scholars,” shared Professor Webley.

We extend our warm congratulations to Lisa on her appointment.
