Long Service Awards 2024
NEWS |
It’s that time of year again where staff come together in Broadgates Hall to celebrate their colleagues who have been working in College for more than 10 years. Over a glass of fizz, staff listened to speeches about each winner of a Long Service Award. The Master thanked each award winner for their contribution to the College community with a gift or bouquet of flowers.
Seven members of staff received an award this year:
20 Years
Helen Joynson (College Accountant)
Helen joined Pembroke as a trainee accountant in 2004 and has since become the College Accountant in 2018, gotten married in the Chapel, and had her children christened by our Chaplain Dr Andrew Teal!
Lavanya Rao (Assistant IT Officer)
Lavanya initially started at Pembroke on a part-time basis but since 2006 she has been a full-time and much-valued member of the IT/JICTS/SOCIT team. Her colleagues describe Lavanya as someone “known for her patience and skill, on the rare occasion she cannot solve a problem she always does her research and quickly returns with the requisite fix.”
15 Years
Tim Walker (Estates Manager)
You might know Tim if you’ve had the pleasure of having one of ‘Tim’s tours’ of College; he knows every site like the back of his hand. His job titles may change, from starting out as Maintenance Supervisor, specialising in Health & Safety to now being the College’s Estate Manager, but his dedication to College remains the same.
Sujan Khadka (Night Porter)
Although many might not have had the pleasure of meeting Sujan because of his shift patterns, he is a crucial member of the Lodge team and is described by his colleagues as “one of the kindest, loveliest people you could ever wish to meet.”
10 Years
Joe Pearce (Senior Sous Chef)
Joe has steadily risen through the ranks in the kitchens, starting out as a Commis Chef and then being promoted to Junior Chef de Partie, full Chef de Partie, Junior Sous Chef, full Sous Chef and now Senior Sous Chef. The title of Head Chef seems not too far off in his future!
Craig Charles (Assistant Butler)
From starting out in the wash-up in the kitchen to becoming Assistant Butler, Craig has “gone from strength to strength, shining at every part of his role,” according to his colleagues. Craig says he loves his job (and we’re sure it’s not only because of the delicious food staff enjoy)!
Kasia Konieczna (Hall Supervisor)
Kasia is an integral member of the catering team and we are thankful for her continued effort and dedication to Pembroke. The catering team would not be the same without her.
