Julie Saunders Appointed as Bursar

NEWS |

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Julie Saunders as our next Bursar, with responsibility for management of the College’s financial affairs.

Julie, an experienced Finance and Operations Director and a social entrepreneur, is presently a Bursar at the King Alfred School in North London. She is also Chair and Founder of Pepal, an international charitable group which develops and inspires leaders to drive social change, connecting businesses with NGOs.  Previously, Julie worked for 10 years at the forefront of the global HIV/AIDS response as Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance and has lived and worked in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria and France. An economist by training, Julie has degrees from the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics. She also has an MBA from INSEAD and is a qualified accountant.

The Master, Sir Ernest Ryder, commented, “I am looking forward to welcoming Julie to College and to the Governing Body, and look forward to the contribution which she will make.  Pembroke, along with so many organisations, is facing increased financial pressures as a result of the ongoing pandemic, but we have ambitions to move forward strongly.  Julie’s successful stewardship of our resources will be critical to our success, and we are very pleased that she will be taking up the role of Bursar.”

Julie added, “I am thrilled to be joining Pembroke, immediately attracted by its ambitious vision and strong sense of community. I am so much looking forward to getting to know everyone and to helping the College navigate through these challenging times and achieve its plans for the future.”

Julie will join the College during Trinity Term and will take part in introductory meetings in the coming weeks and months.  Our Interim Bursar, Kevin Knott, will remain in post until a full handover has taken place.
