Dr Fareed Zakaria Delivers the 2024 Fulbright Distinguished Lecture
NEWS |
On Friday 14th June we were delighted to host the 2024 Fulbright Distinguished Lecture in International Relations with speaker Dr Fareed Zakaria, esteemed Washington Post columnist, CNN host and best-selling author.
Speaking on the subject of ‘Towards a Post-American International Order’, Dr Zakaria discussed the state of the international liberal order, almost 80 years on from the end of the Second World War, examining the dramatic shifts in geopolitics we are witnessing today and asking: what is going to come next? A recording of the lecture is available below.

Dr Fareed Zakaria is the host of Fareed Zakaria GPA, a popular weekly international and domestic affairs programme for CNN Worldwide, as well as a columnist for The Washington Post, contributing editor for The Atlantic, and author of five New York Times best-selling books. In 2019 he was named a “Top 10 Global Thinker of the Last 10 Years” by Foreign Policy magazine.
The annual Fulbright Lecture commemorates former United States Senator J. William Fulbright, Pembroke alumnus and founder of the Fulbright Program, one of the most prestigious international education programmes in the world. The lectures invite prominent speakers to address timely topics in international relations, with former speakers including John Kerry, former U.S. special presidential envoy for climate; Professor Lord Nicholas Stern, past President of the British Academy; and David Miliband, President of the International Rescue Committee.

The lectures are organised in association with the US-UK Fulbright Commission, the Fulbright Association, the Department of Politics and International Relations, and the Lois Roth Foundation.
Details of previous lectures can be found here.
