Congratulations to Alumna Marianna Spring (French and Russian, 2014) who has been featured on the Forbes ’30 under 30’ list 2021 in the Media and Marketing category, in recognition of her work as a BBC News Specialist disinformation and social media reporter.

Marianna has worked as a BBC News reporter for several years, in particular covering social media around the 2019 General Election. Her current role has focused largely on investigating the impact of anti-vaccine and COVID-19 conspiracy theory content online, particularly in regards to social media misinformation.

Marianna has written, interviewed and presented extensively on these topics over the past year amidst the pandemic. She was recently the reporter for ‘Vaccines: The Disinformation War’ for BBC’s Panorama, and has also presented programmes with similar topics on both BBC World Service and Radio 4 since the turn of the year.

Reflecting on her achievement, Marianna commented: “I am delighted to have been named in Forbes 30 under 30, after what has been a very important year of investigating the real world consequences of online disinformation and conspiracy theories. I’m very grateful to all of those who have trusted me with their stories that expose the human cost of what’s happening on social media.”
