Pembroke College JCR Art Collection is delighted to partner with Saba Qizilbash, the 2022 Emery Prize winner, to present the exhibition 'Route of Desire'.

The Artist shares:
"Through my drawings, I walk across difficult landscapes. I journey through plains, valleys, gorges, crossing no mans’ lands, borders, checkpoints and disputed territories. I aspire for a seamlessness where trade, culture, language and heritage can flow freely. I map pre-colonial routes as I hem my way across South Asia, Central Asia and along the Arabian Gulf. Drawing each town an inch at a time, I bring into focus the potential of reviving ancient trade routes which were interrupted and demarcated when new nations were carved as the region gained independence from colonial occupation."
