I obtained my PhD from the London School of Economics. I came to Oxford and Pembroke after teaching at the Universities of Lancaster, Durham and Glasgow.  At Oxford, I teach and research Southeast Asian economic history and development 1870 to the present.  My particular interests are trade and development, globalization, financial development, war, urbanization, famine and migration. Gregg is currently engaged in writing and economic history of Southeast Asia from 1870 to the present
