Mr Harry Baker
I am a pianist, arranger and educator active in classical and jazz performance across the UK and Europe. I studied at Oxford as an undergraduate, where I developed a love for the University as a hub of intelligent people all driven to succeed. I began as a freelance tutor at Oxford colleges in late 2024 to help support the new Jazz component of the Music syllabus. Since then, I have been thrilled to join the fantastic Pembroke musical community, where I tutor the majority of Pembroke Music students in a whole host of modules – from Renaissance Polyphony to Jazz to Modern Pop. It’s a huge privilege to have my home at Pembroke and at the exciting new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities!
I am a pianist, arranger and educator active in classical and jazz performance across the UK and Europe. As a jazz musician, I have worked with Jamie Cullum, Misha Mullov-Abbado and others at venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and King’s Place. As a classical pianist, collaborations with sopranos Fatma Said (Warner Classics), Danielle de Niese (Metropolitan Opera) and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason have led to performances at Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and the Verbier Festival. Recent international touring highlights include the Edinburgh International Festival, Lucerne Festival and Konzerthaus Berlin.
As an arranger, I have written for Aurora Orchestra, National Youth Choirs, The King’s Singers, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and the Jess Gillam Ensemble. In 2024, I made my BBC Proms debut with an hour-long programme of my arrangements of classical, jazz and pop music for Fantasia Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. My arrangements have been recorded on Decca Classics and BBC Radio 3, and published by ABRSM.
