Dr Nora K. Schmid

Associate, Postdoctoral Researcher

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the project "Qur’anic Commentary: An Integrative Paradigm" (QuCIP) at Oxford’s Faculty of Oriental Studies. I currently work on legal paraenesis in the Qur’an and study how legal knowledge is formed, articulated, and imparted to the believers through exhortations and moral reminders in the Medinan surahs. Besides the Qur’an as a late antique text, my research interests include Arabic asceticism, early Islamic religious literature (especially sermons and poetry), the intellectual and literary traditions of pre-Islamic Arabia, and Islamic law.
