Professor James Read

Associate Professor of Philosophy and Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy

I am a Tutor in Philosophy at Pembroke, and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford.

I give undergraduate tutorials in logic, metaphysics and epistemology, the philosophy of science, and the philosophy of physics, among other things. I lecture on the philosophy of physics in the University.

My research lies primarily in the philosophy of physics: in particular, in (i) the foundations of spacetime theories (especially Einstein’s general relativity), (ii) the study of symmetries in physics, and (iii) the role of probability in physics. However, I am interested in all areas of the philosophy of physics and the philosophy of science. For more on my research, please visit my website.
