The Transatlantic, Africa and its Diaspora: Callaloo Conference comes to Pembroke 27th - 30th November

Pembroke is delighted to be hosting Callaloo, for their annual conference, entitled "The Transatlantic, Africa and its Diaspora", on 27-30 November 2013. Callaloo is the premier academic organisation studying the culture and history of the African diaspora, and this will be their first conference held in Europe. The conference has been organised in association with The Oxford Research Centre for the Humanities (TORCH).
The conference programme features a number of African, British, Caribbean, European, and American intellectuals and creative writers, including such figures as David Anderson, Joan Anim-Addo, Elleke Boehmer, Charles Henry Rowell, Carole Boyce Davies, Thadious Davis, Brent Hayes Edwards, Simon Gikandi, Eddie Glaude, Yusef Komunyakaa, Helene Neveu Kringelbach, Ben Okri, Lloyd Pratt, Jean-Paul Rocchi, Marlon Ross, Hortense Spillers, Natasha Trethewey, Stephen Tuck (Fellow in History at Pembroke), Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Corey Walker, John Edgar Wideman, Dagmawi Woubshet, and others.

Particular highlights for non-specialists will be the keynote address by Ngugi wa Thiong'o on the 27th, and public readings by leading poets and writers (with responses) on the other evenings.
