Pembroke's Academic Director, Dr Mark Fricker, is a biologist with a special interest in the growth of adaptive networks of mould systems, and what we can learn from this about efficient network engineering of infrastrcuture projects.  Dr Fricker's work has been featured alongside that of colleagues with related research projects in a documentary film SUPER FUNGI: Can mushrooms help save the world?

The film was screened at the 2013 Pariscience International Film Festival and won two awards: the Audience Prize and the Pierre-Gilles de Gennes Prize for a film dealing with research and spreading scientific knowledge, through an original scenario.  It will be screened, in its original French, on the European TV network Arte this Thursday, 16th October, at 10:50pm and will be available on Arte + 7 during the following seven days.
