Student Callers Connect with Alumni in January Telethon

NEWS |

Pembroke’s first ever January Telethon was a fantastic success thanks to our 12 student callers, who worked tirelessly during the Oxford vacation period, as well as the generosity of those they spoke to.

Our callers reached alumni from across the world, speaking to people based in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, the Middle East, mainland Europe and the UK.

The telethon was a rare chance for our students to hear past stories from almost 300 alumni about their time at Pembroke, while also seeking career advice. Our alumni were able to hear the latest news from College, and nearly half of those spoken to made a gift to the Annual Fund, raising £50,300 in confirmed pledges.

The College’s Alumni Advisory Panel also generously contributed to a telethon matching scheme, meaning that every new regular gift received in the telethon released an additional £200 for Pembroke. With 66 new regular commitments made, our students raised an further £13,200 for the College!

This telethon has encouraged even more Pembrokians to donate to the Annual Fund in 2016, which supports academic scholarships, the College library, bursaries and Pembroke's access programmes, as well as a number of student activities each year. It is fantastic to see the alumni giving participation grow each year.

We can't thank our alumni and our January telethon team enough for what they have achieved together for the College.
