A Sporting Weekend: Alumni v Students

NEWS |

Over our 400-year history, sport has played an increasingly important part of student life at Pembroke: from lawn bowls in the eighteenth century, to a growth in team sports and rowing in the nineteenth century, until eventually in 1921 the College was given its own sportsground, in memory of an alumnus.

It was on that very sportsground that on Saturday 3rd March 2024 current members of the Pembroke College Football Club, including some of their newest recruits, were joined by a group of Old Boys for an afternoon of friendly rivalry, muddy shins, and of course plenty of celebration and cheer.

Just down the road, the rain held off for a netball reunion which saw a very close Alumni v Students game, with the current girls narrowly securing a win at 20 - 19. The group then enjoyed a meal together before returning to the College bar for a celebratory drink.

Organised by the current team captains, Elamin Ibrahim and Rebecca McCash, the afternoon was a wonderful way to bring together Pembroke sportsmen and women from across the generations as we mark our 400th anniversary.
