Professor Stephen Whitefield and Team to Represent Oxford in ‘Horizon Europe’ Consortium

Professor Stephen Whitefield, along with researchers Zofia Stemplowska and Spyros Kosmidis, will represent the University of Oxford in a consortium of eight European institutions taking part in the new Horizon Europe Framework, a European Commission/UKRI jointly-funded AUTHLIB project. The consortium’s goal will be to study how liberal democracies can respond to their challengers, capturing the dynamics of ideological change in the European Union and focussing in particular on Poland, France, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, UK and Austria.

Professor Whitefield and his Oxford team will investigate the emotional underpinnings of illiberalism among both elites and citizens, and the normative basis for liberal policy responses.
