“As a first-gen academic, I’m deeply honoured by this recognition,” shared Professor Salguero-Gómez. “Being made Full Professor is not only a personal milestone, but also a testament to the collaborative spirit of my research group, colleagues, and students. Pembroke has been a wonderful intellectual home, with colleagues in Biology, Robotics, Engineering, and Experimental Psychology having positively influenced my science. I’m excited to continue contributing to our shared mission of excellence in teaching, research, and community.”

Professor Salguero-Gómez’s research focuses on topics ranging from life history theory to natural populations’ responses to climate change, with an emphasis on conservation. He is a dedicated tutor, ensuring that his students engage with all the University has to offer, from access to old textbooks with depictions of endemic fauna and flora to visits to the back-stage collections of the Museum of Natural History. Professor Salguero-Gómez also closely collaborates with his students on real-world challenges, aiming to increase awareness about the importance of biodiversity; their recent project Wild Things seeks to engage young people in UK state schools with the biodiversity in their local ecosystems through practical experience.
