Pembroke DPhil Student Péter Juhász appointed to the Order of Malta
NEWS |
Congratulations to Pembroke College DPhil student and Royal Society Research Scholar, Péter Juhász (2018, Atomic and Laser Physics), who has recently been appointed to the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Malta as a ‘Donat of Devotion’. This appointment is in recognition of his work with the homeless in both Oxford and Cambridge and follows Péter’s earlier appointment to the Order of St John, a British Crown order.
Péter studied his undergraduate degree at Cambridge University, during which he helped set up a scheme for students to visit residents of a care home. He also collected and distributed clothes to the homeless around Christmas. Currently in Oxford, Péter helps in running a soup kitchen on Saturdays at St Giles Parish Hall, where hot sandwiches, tea, and showers are offered to the homeless.
The Order of Malta was founded in Jerusalem in the 11th century and is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation. It is active in 120 countries and cares for people in need through medical, social and humanitarian work. Find more information about the Order of Malta here and the Oxford Companions of the Order of Malta Facebook page here.
