Pete Rae Places First in National Ophthalmology Exam

NEWS |

Pembroke Student Pete Rae (2020, Medicine – Clinical) has achieved the highest mark in the Royal College of Ophthalmology's annual Examination. Congratulations!

This examination is open to medical undergraduates across the UK and Ireland and is designed at a very high academic standard. Pete was one of 440 medical students who took part in this year’s exam. Questions are mostly based on clinical ophthalmology; other areas include ocular physiology, anatomy and pathology as well as genetics of eye conditions and socio-economic medicine relevant to ophthalmology.

Pete shares: “I found preparation for the exam fascinating - I’m so pleased with the result! The prize is a two-week trip to Jerusalem in October, where I’ll be able to shadow staff at the St John Eye Hospital, a charitable provider of eye care helping patients in Israel and Palestine. It will be incredible to visit and pursue my passion in ophthalmology. I’m so grateful to the Dean of Graduates fund for covering the cost of the resources I used to study!”
