Pembroke Unveils ‘The Schild Building’ in Honour of Alumnus Julian Schild

On Sunday 12th June, Pembroke’s Master Dame Lynne Brindley hosted a private celebration to inaugurate The Schild Building.

Located in the new Rokos Quad, the building has been renamed in recognition of the generosity of Julian Schild (1977, History) and his family in support of the Bridging Centuries campaign.

Julian and his daughter Francesca (2011, Chemistry)  have chosen to dedicate the Schild Building to the memory of their late father and grandfather, Rolf Schild OBE, recognising his belief in the value of education, while room 1.5 in the building will henceforth bear Francesca’s name.

Pembroke owes much to Julian’s efforts as an active and invaluable member of the College community: he is an Advisory Fellow as well as a member of the Alumni Advisory Panel. Extremely generous in his own right, Julian was also the Chairman of the ‘Bridging Centuries’ Campaign Board which helped Pembroke meet its ambitious £17m target for the new building project.

Julian said at the inauguration 'I first arrived at Pembroke for my interview in 1976.  Never could I have imagined that 40 years later I would be at an event such as this! I am delighted to be able to contribute to the College's future success and hope that the building will welcome many happy generations of students'.
