Pembroke Student’s Team Crowned UK National Mooting Champions

NEWS |

Congratulations to Athena Kam (2019, Jurisprudence) and her team for being named the UK National Champions of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition! We asked Athena to tell us about her experience preparing for the event as well as her life at Pembroke:

“Doing the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot alongside studying law at Pembroke has been an enriching experience. I had the opportunity to research beyond the scope of my course, and gained a more holistic understanding of my subject which sparked new areas of interest. In a typical week, I would have 5 to 7 practice moots (simulation of a court hearing) and a personal highlight was mooting in front of Oxford’s Ethics, Law and Institute of Armed Conflict researchers.

I am grateful for Pembroke’s support, which enabled me to stay in Oxford outside term-time to put my best efforts into preparing with my team, and I’ve also enjoyed engaging with the College community as a JCR Music and Drama Rep. I would highlight the friendliness of the College as one of its best features, and I will always treasure the memories made with my friends here.”

We wish Athena and her team the best of luck as they start the International Rounds of the competition soon.
