Pembroke Student Peter Juhasz appointed to the Order of St John

Congratulations to Pembroke DPhil student Peter Juhasz (2018, Physics) who was recently appointed to the Order of St John, a British Crown Order. A prestigious international charitable organisation, the Order of St John is perhaps best known as the parent organisation of the St John Ambulance association.

Appointment to the order is bestowed on the basis of having made outstanding contributions to the work of St John in the field of charity. Peter, who was appointed to the Order’s junior grade of Esquire, was recognised for his excellent work to help the homeless in the UK, in the cities of both Cambridge and Oxford. While an undergraduate in Cambridge, Peter was involved in the Order of Malta, an organisation that focuses on helping the sick and the poor. During this time, Peter volunteered at the local care home, and now leads a soup kitchen in Oxford on Saturdays along with other Order of Malta Companions.

Peter received his appointment to the Order of St John in October 2019, with the award being officially presented to him by Surgeon Rear Admiral Lionel Jarvis, at the Order’s Church in Clerkenwell on December 12, 2019.

Discussing this exceptional achievement, Peter commented: ‘I felt honoured to receive such a recognition and it gives me great inspiration to continue my work’.
