"Pembroke out West” for Oxford University’s Alumni Weekend in San Francisco
NEWS |
Last month, the University of Oxford’s Alumni Weekend took place in San Francisco, where a number of Pembroke Alumni gathered.
The Master of the College, Dame Lynne Brindley and the Strategic Development Director, Andrew Seton, joined 12 Pembroke alumni for the University’s Gala dinner in the iconic Ferry Terminal.
The following evening over thirty Pembroke alumni and their guests were treated to a memorable dinner party at the Mark Hopkins Hotel. Dame Lynne delivered an update on Pembroke’s recent news, providing details of academic and sporting success. This was followed by an entertaining talk by the Pembroke Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon, Professor Andy Orchard, on the “Earliest English”.
To mark his retirement, Andrew Seton was presented with a retirement gift from alumnus Tom Herman (1971) on behalf of the Pembroke College Foundation. Tom commented:
‘I was so proud to be part of the large and lively Pembroke delegation in San Francisco led by Dame Lynne… it was bittersweet, however, to say goodbye to our great friend, Andrew Seton, who has been an extraordinary bridge from College to the American alumni for over a decade.’
The following morning delegates attended a lively brunch at Jeremy Sutton (1979) and Peggy Gyulai’s art studio.
Alumnus Donald Duggan (1973) remarked:
“This was the one of the largest Bay Area Pembroke events that I can remember – a warm and lively group gathered to celebrate the College and to thank Andrew Seton for his efforts in supporting the North American Pembroke community.”
