An Oxford love story: From a College disco to a 50th wedding anniversary

Having met at a disco in Brasenose Cellars in 1971, Paul and Phyl Carvosso were married in Pembroke Chapel on a snowy April day in 1975. Pembroke Alumnus Tom Herman’s ‘Dateline-Saigon’ documentary released to several platforms

Congratulations to Pembroke Alumnus Tom Herman (1972) who has recently had his award-winning documentary film, Dateline-Saigon, released on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, DVD and other video streaming platforms.

Produced over a period of 12 years, Dateline-Saigon focuses on a small group of Pulitzer Prize winning journalists who sought to report a truth regarding the Vietnam War that was vastly different from the version put forth by the White House during the early years of the conflict. The film’s main message emphasises the importance of an independent press speaking truth to power and holding governments to account, and the hope that such journalistic activities can serve as inspiration to continue seeking truth in the present day.

The film was previously aired at a special showing in College during Michaelmas term 2018.

Tom commented: “I was never more proud than when my film was screened in College, a place so close to my heart, where I learned tools essential to filmmaking – think critically; get your facts right; write clearly; have confidence in your vision and respect diverse opinions.”
