Orwell Youth Prize inaugural awards ceremony held at Pembroke

Inspired by its own ‘Big Brother’, Britain’s most prestigious Prize for political writing, the Orwell Youth Prize aims to support and inspire a new generation of politically engaged young writers.

Focusing on the GCSE and 6th form age range, the prize collaborates with every kind of school in all areas, and is open to young writers studying any subject.

The Prize's pilot year ended in June 2015 with a Celebration Day at Pembroke College, Oxford. During the day entrants were invited to take part in seminars and workshops, as well as attending the prize-giving ceremony.

Many superb entries were submitted from fifteen different schools across the UK following writing workshops led by some of the nation’s most respected writers and journalists.

The judging panel, comprised of Professor Jean Seaton and Professor Brian Cathcart, selected six winners from a shortlist of fifteen entries. To see full details of prizewinners, inlcuding the text of their entries visit The Orwell Youth Prize website.
