New Pembroke JRF speaks at Harvard conference on Theology and AI
NEWS |

New Pembroke JRF, Revd Dr Oliver Wright, who has joined the Religion and Frontier Challenges postdoctoral fellowship programme, recently spoke at Harvard at a conference on Theology and AI.
In his paper, titled ‘Where AI Fears to Tread: The Instrumentalization of Life’, Oliver argued a positive case for ‘life’, tracing definitions of ‘life’ from Aristotle to the Gospel of John and the work of the contemporary Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben.

‘The conference brought together theologians, philosophers, and senior AI engineers and policy makers from around the world to discuss AI and the human person. This combination of theoreticians and practitioners made for engaging conversations, forcing us academics beyond the critical sidelines,’ shared Oliver. ‘It is vital that a discipline like Theology which has been inquiring about the nature of the human person for millennia, finds its prophetic voice again in relation to a tool like AI.’
