Memorial Stone Honouring Sir Roger Bannister Placed in Westminster Abbey

NEWS |

A ledger stone inscribed with the name of Sir Roger Bannister, former Master of Pembroke College, was placed in Westminster Abbey last September to honour Sir Roger’s name as a pioneering neurologist and a world champion runner. The memorial stone was blessed by The Dean of the Abbey, The Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, and the service was attended by family, friends and former colleagues.

More information and photos can be found on the Westminster Abbey website here.

Four years after his death, Sir Roger Bannister’s name still lives on in Pembroke College. The Sir Roger Bannister Scholarship continues to be awarded annually to students showing excellent performance in both academic and sporting activities, following Sir Roger’s example. His trophies and sporting awards are on display the College Hall and the Bannister Building in Rokos Quad stands as a permanent tribute to Sir Roger.
