Katharine Viner (1989, English) announced as next Editor-in-Chief of the Guardian

Pembroke alumna Katharine Viner will be the next Editor-in-Chief of the Guardian newspaper, and the first woman at the helm in its 194-year history.

Katharine Viner came to Pembroke in 1989 to read English and her career in journalism has taken her from Cosmopolitan magazine to The Sunday Times to the Guardian where she has filled a wide variety of roles during her 18 years with the group, including a period as a deputy editor of the title, working as editor of the Saturday edition from 2008 until 2012, launching an Australian operation and building the team there, and in the past year heading up Guardian US from New York as its editor-in-chief.
