Introducing Pembroke’s new Music Director, Mark Wilson

NEWS |

We are delighted to introduce Pembroke’s new Music Director, Mark Wilson. Mark has extensive musical experience in both choral and instrumental groups. He currently leads Standish Consort, the alumni choir of the Oxford University Society’s Gloucester branch, as well as singing regularly with different Cathedral choirs.

Mark specialises in historical performance and is the founder of Ensemble La Notte. His favourite music is by French baroque composer Jean Phillipe Rameau, with whom he also shares a birthday!

Since joining College at the beginning of term, Mark has already made a significant impact on the musical life of the College. He has enjoyed re-establishing Pembroke’s Jazz Band and has also started an orchestra and non-auditioning choir open to the entire community. Both staff and students have been keen to get involved.

Mark will also oversee the Chapel choir as well as supporting it through one-to-one singing lessons and providing mentorship to the organ scholars.

A number of exciting musical projects are planned for the upcoming academic year and beyond, such as the Hilary term musical which will be ‘Guys and Dolls’. This term, Mark is working towards the annual Carol service and Christmas concert on 27th November and 2nd December respectively.

Looking forward to our 400th Anniversary in 2024, we are delighted to have Mark’s energy and enthusiasm being poured into developing our musical life.  If you would like to be involved in musical activities within the College, please contact mark.wilson@pmb.ox.ac.uk.
